Dia mengklaim dirinya sebagai "The King of Tremolo"..

Johann Kaspar Mertz was born in Pressburg, now Bratislava, on the August 17, 1806 of poor parents. He was a precocious guitar and flute virtuoso and by 1840 was living in Vienna where he had immediate success; enjoying the direct patronage of the Empress Caroline Augusta and performing in the capital. Tours to Moravia, Poland and Russia, where he played in the castle of Prince Urosoff, were followed by concerts in Berlin and Dresden. It was in the latter city that he met Josephine Plantin with whom he toured. He married her in Prague on the fourteenth of December 1842. Four years later Mertz became very ill. The doctor prescribed strycine. Josephine was rather imprudent, administering the entire dose and predictably, her husband worsened.
After eighteen months of tender nursing appears that the guitarist was again ready for rigours of concert life and his career was resumed. In 1855 he perfomed for Ludwig of Bavaria, who, the story goes, was incredulous that an instrument so modest in appearance with just ten strings could produce such an effect. Shortly before winning the 1856 competition in Brussels for guitar composition, Mertz died. Josephine gives the date as the fourteenth of October 1856.
Mertz composed prolifically for solo guitar and for guitar and piano. According to his wife, he also played the mandolin, 'cello and zither. His numbered works reach op.100 (although there are several missing piece) and there is a large body of works without opus number and manuscripts. The quality of the composition varies considerably, and it is unfortunate for us today that a sizeable proportion of the Mertz legacy comprises works based on operatic airs used in fairly predictable theme and variations or fantasy forms.
Frank Koonce is internationally acclaimed as a performer, teacher, and writer. He holds degrees from the North Carolina School of the Arts and from Southern Methodist University, studying first with Jesús Silva and then with Robert Guthrie. In 1974-75, he was a Fulbright Scholar and performer in Italy where he studied with Sergio Notaro and Alirio Diaz.
Mr. Koonce's creative output includes an authoritative guitar edition of Johann Sebastian Bach's complete solo lute works and the world-premiere recording in English of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Platero and I" for narrator and guitar (Summit, DCD 1002). He has also recorded an album entitled "A Southwest Christmas" with the Phoenix Bach Choir (Soundset, SR 1005) and is featured in a live concert video with the renowned composer/guitarist, Nikita Koshkin (Mel Bay 99231VX). As a founding partner of Soundset Recordings he has helped produce other classical compact discs, including a premiere recording of works by Alan Hovhaness with the Korean Broadcasting System Symphony Orchestra and the first two recordings of Nikita Koshkin.
A Professor of Music, Frank Koonce has directed the guitar program at Arizona State University since 1978. He was Director of "Guitar Festival 1987" an international event jointly sponsored by the Guitar Foundation of America and the American String Teachers Association, and has since served as Chair the GFA Advisory Board. He is an active performer, with recitals to his credit in England, Korea, Macedonia, Taiwan, China, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, The Czech Republic, Austria, and throughout the United States.
Denis Mortagne completed his guitar studies at the Conservatory of Avignon while also studying composition, cello, music history, music theory, and orchestral conducting. He then completed advanced studies in composition with Janine Rueff, Jean Claude Henry, and George Hugon, and in guitar with Karel Harms and René Bartoli. He is a prize winner in the “René Bartoli” and “Carpentras” international guitar competitions, and was awarded first prize in the St. Marc International Composition Competition in 1999.
In 1994, Denis founded the Orchestre de guitares de Provence and has since recorded several of his works with this ensemble, including the CD Voyage. He frequently gives solo recitals of classical, romantic, and contemporary works––including many of his own compositions––and is an active chamber musician in performances for two guitars and for violin and guitar. As a pedagogue, he is the guitar professor at the Carpentras Music School, the Director of the Pays Voconces Music School in the south of France, and also teaches at the Krakauer International Music Academy. His reputation as a teacher and composer/conductor has made him a highly demanded guest instructor for master classes in France and other European countries.
Denis Mortagne’s combined musical activities as a performer, teacher, and composer have constantly inspired him to renew his artistic and pedagogical vision. His compositions and arrangements invite listeners into a unique musical landscape and have been enthusiastically received by audiences throughout the world.
The son of singer/songwriter Tim Buckley, Jeff was born in Orange County, California, in 1966. He began playing the guitar while in high school, and then studied at the Los Angeles Musicians Institute before moving to New York in 1990. There he formed a short-lived, but locally popular band known as "Gods & Monsters" with guitarist Gary Lucas. In 1993, he began a solo career playing in clubs and coffeehouses, which led to a contract with Columbia Records for an EP recording called Live at Sin-e. His first major success came one year later with the release of Grace, a full-length debut album that received rave reviews. Included on this recording are original works such as "Last Goodbye" as well as a deeply emotional cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
Buckley relocated to Memphis in 1996 where he began preparing a second album. On the night of May 29, 1997, while awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he impulsively decided to take a swim as he and a friend were walking beside a channel of the Mississippi River. Tragically, he was swept under the water by the wake of a passing boat. His body was not found until six days later.

I bought this sheet 3/4 weeks ago, after listened Carmen Perennis (Eternal Ballad) on Austin Moorhead myspace. It consists of 3 movements : Carmen Perennis (Eternal Ballad), Fuga Temporum (Fugitive Vision), and Prima Lux (Sunrise).
